A “niche” basically means the group of people that you will be focusing on, they are your customers who share the same characteristics and are all interested in purchasing from you or that you’ve identified as possible leads.

If your passion is to paint sailboats, that would be your niche. People will get to know you for painting beautiful sailboats.

By having a niche, you will be able to market and promote your art to the right audience. You will not waste valuable time marketing to people who have no interest in your artistic style.

Knowing your niche doesn’t limit your business, but instead gives you a focused approach to go after the clients who will truly appreciate your talents.

  • Get to know your target market

Once you understand your own work and what you have to offer, it’s time to start finding the right market for it. As with every other business you need to find out as much as you can about who might want to buy your art—locally, nationally, internationally.
